Launched more than a decade ago as a clothing label, Lonely has more recently gained global attention for its lingerie and swimwear collections – and its accompanying movement for body positivity. The brand is best known for its striking multi-strap bras, high-waisted knickers and understated dark-toned swimwear. From showstopping coats and beautifully tailored dresses to luxurious suiting, it’s all designed with longevity in mind – these are investment pieces for the ultra-chic. The flagship store on Jervois Road sits beside some of the most expensive real estate in the country. Forget the garish, logo-emblazoned “it” bags – Deadly Ponies’ quirky, high-quality leather handbags and accessories are what the cool crowd covets right now. Inspired by the tradition of equestrian leatherwork (hence the name), Deadly Ponies is renowned for its fine materials, handcrafted brass hardware and artisanal ethos. More recently, it has branched into luxe leather and shearling jackets. The newest Deadly Ponies store is in Britomart, a hip retail and dining precinct in restored heritage buildings downtown, on the waterfront. It’s a compact area to explore on foot and is adjacent to the ferry terminal, from which you can cruise across the harbour to beautiful Waiheke Island or Rangitoto.
